' Scene Two.

A and B inter changable charators ..Sit as before at the table
A ( the sake of augument) " Yes its all too waxey for words.. "
B ."But I'm only a normal Mailer, .they lock me up at night."
A. ( Picking up a wooden spoon from the mess ) " So you got th'e
job at the post office ? " ( Puts down the bowl head of the spoon
on the top of the jam pot and take the paused pose of about to
slam the spoon, hard on the top of the jam violently) The job got

you ?"     •
B.  " Yes you could say that.. as the saying goes. "Not empow-

- ered makes postage illeagal. .Approp'ating state buildings and
private restrictions .'. .As they say ' Who is the Empowered' ?
A. ( still holding the pose of about to slam the spoon down)

" You know of corse that the decay of the human macro-elem-

-ents of the machine will mean the destruction of the system"
B. . " A joke at best" ( A lifts the spoon and prepares to beat it
down with stiffled anger.) " A job is. .an insult to the very
potential . .advancement stops ... ( A puts down the spoon with
release that would normally only come w'th the smashing of

the jar).. "Evolution ceases.." ,
A. (bursts into song with false high voice in operat'c style)

Darty has my mind.                           .

Has it on a pole.
Darty has a chain.

Wrapped around my skull. :

B. . ( Slowly begins to tear the newspaper in thin narrow strips

at the beginning of the song and has now a pile of anger torn

fragments piled in front of them.) " We are not made as ants,"

A. . " But this is the best we can'expect. "

Sillence on stage A & B relax and fibget in their chairs as if

making ready for a new act. .A or B brushes down their clothes

with a hand(as if covered with dust)

Silience as the figure in the armchair takes out a small make-up

mirror as a periscope to see around the back of the chair the

thumb has red nail varnish on it.
A. ( continuing mid sentance after long pause) . . " The very best'

A row of white homoginous blocks arranged 'n straight lines. .
un-named . .Un-maked. .we can hope for. .blank souares of mil1*
clean blocks frozen. .Nothing. Still 't is a job isnt it."

B.. . (In a, calming voice) " Don't worry about, .fcest not to
think about it. .Think about what yout going to buy. .keebs
your mind off (t. "

A (Regaining a cherrfull expression tota"y convinced by B )
" Yes. .what shall I buy. ? ".

B. . ( Going into a dream like sentimenta' coma) " Convo'sive
Viewing^.. .cruality television is oxymoronic..! wonder whats
on the television? .1 get so bored being unempowered. .all
that spare Time on your hands, .whet to do with it. .1 think
its time to put the television on.. "
A. . " Yes its a shame isn 't itt. .whet do we have here.. "'
Both characters look up to the screen as it comes into life.

On the ecreen; A f'lm loop repeats cons'sting of. 1

3 A pelicon's head in close up (Response " Uhhmm")

4 Fast images of test symbols. .Black and white

.checks squares and circles of many lines some
spin others off centre wobble. (Response ..noding heads

5 ,Trees seen at sun set with the light coming through
(response. " Ahhh" )

6 Newsreader silient concerned voice with image of
stock market behind. ( Response. Nodding heads)

7 Opera house seen outside with crowds leaving

( No response but ind'fferent) |j

8 Spermarket with packed shelves and a buss'ness- S
.-man carry'ng a shopping basket walks towards   H
the camera. (Response. A&B look at each other
with knowing looks nod and in recognition say
" Ahh" B mummbies" so thats what. . "

Film loop on telev's'on continues to repeat several t'mes w'th
the responses to each scene repeated w'th each showing. Then
after about 5 minutes B begins to try to get up in the b'eck that
is added at the end on the loqro . As the blackness gap 'ncreases
1" lasiyqrthso B gets nearer to the screen before the resuming
loop makes them scuttle back to the chair.
